Create roles and assign permissions

Roles are created in the Project configuration -> Permissions section. All project roles are listed here.

Required permissions

The user must be assigned to a role that includes the project permission “Users and Roles”. This is the case, for example, with the predefined role “Project Manager”.

Create roles

You can create a new role using the button. Give the role a descriptive name, e.g. “Electrician, A-Stadt location”.

Assign permissions

The newly created role does not yet have any permissions. Select the new role from the list and then use the “Add permission” button to add specific permissions.

Object type

A permission may be granted for objects of the type Project, Location or Medium.

Object

Depending on the selected object type, the relevant objects are displayed in this list for you to choose from.

Permission

Depending on the selected object type, the relevant permission objects are displayed in this list for selection.

  • Examples of project permissions include documents or cost centres, as these are defined across locations.
  • A meter reading area is defined below the location; accordingly, it is covered by location permissions.
  • Distributions are objects that fall under the location medium and are therefore subject to medium permissions.

Access

  • No access = Access is denied
  • Read = Properties can be read, but not modified or deleted.
  • Edit = Properties can be viewed and modified. However, it is not possible to delete this object.
  • Full = Properties can be read and modified. It is also possible to delete this object.

One of the most important permissions is “Properties”. The “Properties” permission within the “Project” scope is regarded as a “basic permission” in visual energy and is required in almost all roles, at least with “Read” access.

Templates for project and energy managers

The system contains templates for project managers and energy managers. These contain the permissions typically required for the respective role.

It is advisable to create a “Project Manager” role and assign it the permissions of the standard “Project Manager” template. This ensures that all the necessary permissions are in place for the required configuration work.

Only trained users should be assigned to this role.
