Workflows |
Workflows are used in visual energy to carry out processes on a one-off or regular basis. Workflows can calculate, monitor, import or export data, or generate reports. There are also system workflows that are reserved exclusively for system administrators and used solely for global processing.
Basic properties
Target type | Workflows are generally applicable specifically to a particular object type (e.g. metering point, OBIS measured variable). They affect the respective target object. For this reason, only workflows appropriate to the respective target object are offered for selection. | |
| In this documentation, this symbol is used in every workflow description to indicate where the workflow can be found. This is generally also the target type. | |
Workflow assignment | In order for a workflow to be executed for a specific object – for example, a measured variable for a metering point – it must be assigned to that object. This usually happens automatically: first select the target object, then assign the workflow to it under “Automation”. | |
Parameters | Each workflow has a varying number of parameters that influence its function. For example, the time range is a parameter used to limit the scope of the processing. | |
Possible OBIS measured variables | Workflows that perform specific types of measured variable processing often cannot be used universally for any measured variable. The workflow description includes a list of the possible OBIS measured variables. If the OBIS measured variables required for the workflow are not available on the target system, they will be created by the workflow. | |
Execution | This property determines when a workflow is executed. | |
| Schedules can start workflows at specified times. | |
| Triggers are events that can start workflows. After completing, a workflow can trigger a configured trigger to start a subsequent workflow. | |
| Upon receipt of data | This option starts the workflow when new data is entered for the target type. |
Download / Version | Provided that the program’s fundamental core functionalities are not affected, workflows can also be installed retrospectively via the visual energy user interface. A setup or program update, with all the necessary consequences, is therefore not required. However, an existing workflow can only be overwritten by a higher version. | |
