OBIS type

Each measured variable corresponds to a specific type.

1 – Load profile

The “Load profile” type is used for periodic data collection. The “Period length” parameter is used to define a fixed duration. Gaps are not permitted. The value is stored internally with just a single timestamp, which corresponds to the end of the measurement period. The start time can be determined from the end time minus the period length. Workflows can check data integrity and identify gaps.

2 – Meter reading

The “meter reading” type can be regarded in much the same way as an instantaneous value. There is no data collection interval, nor is there any expectation that, for example, a value must be available every month. Rather, there may be as many or as few meter readings as required for a given measured variable. It is simply assumed that this is a continuously increasing meter. A value can therefore only be equal to or greater than its immediate predecessor. One exception is the meter replacement. Workflows can calculate differences based on meter readings, taking into account a meter replacement.

3 – Feed rate

The “Feed rate” type represents a time-range value. Both the start and end dates are stored for each value. This is typically a regular time range, such as a day, a week or a month. However, the actual duration may well vary. Not all months are exactly the same length. Nor do the days or years.

4 – Instantaneous value

An instantaneous value is typically a value captured at a specific moment. There is no rule governing either the interval or the value. A timestamp is stored for each value.

5 – Cumulative period maximum

The “Cumulative Period Maximum” type is a special form of the “Load profile” type.

6 – Cumulative daily maximum

The “Cumulative Daily Maximum” type is a special form of the “Feed rate” type.

7 – Switching operation

The “Switching operation” type is reserved for specific switching events. Additional information about the event is encoded in the value.

8 – PQ Expert

The PQ Expert type is a special variant of the load profile type. This field is used to encode further statistical information relating to network events.
