OBIS codes are managed by the DLMS User Association. In total, there are several billion OBIS codes available, many of which are reserved for standardisation purposes, while the remainder can be used for specific purposes such as manufacturers, countries and consortia. Specifications for electricity are set out in DIN EN 62056-61:2007-06, and for gas in DIN EN 13757-1.

The information below is therefore intended only as guidance and comprises extracts.

  • 0 – If only one object is instantiated, the value in value group B is 0.
  • 1…64 – If several objects are instantiated within the same physical device, value group B numbers the measurement or communication channels accordingly from 1 to 64. The following applies to KBR / visual energy:

  • 65…127 – Utility-specific codes
  • 128…199 – Manufacturer-specific codes. The following applies to KBR / visual energy:
    • 130 – Forecast
    • 131 – Working day (max)
    • 132 – Public holiday (max)
    • 133 – Working day (min)
    • 134 – Public holiday (min)
    • 141 – Replacement profile: working day
    • 142 – Replacement profile: public holiday
    • 143 – Cost model 1 (fixed) (Price B = 147 x value in B = 0 or 1)
    • 144 – Cost model 2 (variable) (Price B=148 x value in B=0 or 1)
    • 145 – CO₂ weight of the base measured value in kg
    • 146 – CO₂ weight of the base unit in g
    • 147 – fixed price for a unit of value in B=0
    • 148 – variable price (market price) for one unit of value in B=0

Specific to each medium in Group A.

For A=1 (electricity), this group indicates which physical quantity is measured or displayed.

  • 1 – Positive active power (QI + QIV)
  • 3 – Positive reactive power (QI + QII)
  • 9 – Positive apparent power
  • 11 – Current (any phase)
  • 12 – Voltage (any phase)
  • 13 – Power factor
  • 14 – Mains frequency
  • 15 – Absolute value of active power

For A=7 (gas):

  • 1 – Energy
  • 11 – Operating volume
  • 13 – Standard volume
  • 41 – Gas temperature
  • 42 – Gas pressure (absolute)
  • 50 – Conversion factor (combined factor: condition factor x gross calorific value)
  • 52 – Condition factor (effect of pressure and temperature)
  • 53 – Compressibility factor (describes the deviation of a real gas from an ideal gas).
  • 54 – Gross calorific value

D

Specific to each medium in Group A.

For A=1 (electricity), this group indicates how the measured variable has been processed or aggregated.

  • 0 – Instantaneous value
  • 1 – Meter reading (cumulative)
  • 4 – Current average value
  • 5 – Average for the previous period
  • 6 – Minimum value
  • 7 – Maximum value
  • 8 – Test value
  • 9 – Setpoint (e.g. configuration)
  • 10–99 – Further time-related or functional information

When A = 7, gas, on the other hand:

  • 0 – Instantaneous value (no integration)
  • 1 – Meter reading (cumulative)
  • 6 – Maximum value
  • 7 – Instantaneous value (integrated)
  • 11 – Periodic values
  • 29 – Daily total

E

Tariff or measurement channel. If only one object is instantiated, the value in value group E is 0.

If more than one object is instantiated within the same physical device, value group E numbers the instances from zero up to the maximum required value.

  • 0 – Total value (all tariffs)
  • 1–63 – Tariff 1 to 63
  • 64–127 – Communication channels or further channels
  • 128 – Manufacturer- or project-specific
