Upgrading from previous versions
Upgrade from version 4.x to 5.0 / 5.1
If a visual energy 4.x system is to be upgraded to version 5.0 / 5.1, please note the following:
- System requirements: Please ensure you first update to the latest released version, 4.7.1
- New permissions system: Users and roles must be created and assigned anew.
- New folder system
- Diagram collections are dissolved. All diagrams in a collection are imported as individual diagrams and stored in a shared import folder.
- Chart permissions (previously individual permissions at chart level) must be reassigned at folder level (user role)
- The individual diagrams within a collection will continue to be linked to one another.
- The assignment of documents to a metering point, distribution, location or medium is converted into links. All documents are transferred to folders (project and location folders).
- Document permissions (previously individual permissions at document level) must be reassigned at folder level (user role)
- Dashboards are imported along with their existing folder structures. Permissions must be reassigned at folder level (user role).
Getting started
Once installed, the visual energy login screen can be accessed via the web URL specified during setup. A KBR user was created during installation.
This serves as a backup user, solely for the KBR service. At the customer’s request, this account can be used to access the system if the customer can no longer access visual energy themselves (e.g. if all passwords have been forgotten). This backup user can be locked out on request. However, this may increase the service costs if the required administrator access cannot be granted. We therefore recommend assigning the System Administrator role with care.
NOTICE

Please create a new user and then assign this user to the “Project Administrator” role, if they have not already been created by the KBR service.
Upgrade notes for upgrading from version 5.1 to 5.x
When upgrading from a 5.1 system to later versions, please note the following:
System requirements: Please note the hardware and software requirements.
The “CSV Import – Multiple Metering Points in One File” workflow is not yet available; it will be released with the first service update.
In version 5.1, the Excel WCF service – and therefore the Excel add-in – was able, among other things, to retrieve and display live data from Busmaster via visual energy. This feature is no longer supported. The WCF service now only allows database data to be retrieved from visual energy.
The Busmaster file import workflow no longer exists. Files (EN 50160 reports) are now imported automatically and are immediately available in the metering point.
The maintenance service must be reconfigured and now uses the mail server configured in the visual energy system configuration. In version 5.1, this was a separate configuration option. There was also an option here called “KBR SMTP server”. For security reasons, this option will no longer be supported in future.
The Excel WCF service will be available via the following URLs in future: /Api/DataAccess.svc (SOAP) Api/DataAccess.svc/json (WEB/REST)
For compatibility reasons, the previous URLs (/api/Services/ExcelWcfService.svc) can still be used in version 5.2. However, they are considered obsolete and will be removed in a future version.
Direct reading and writing to the file system requires an explicit SMB share. Previously, some workflows (e.g. CSV export) could read files from the file system or write files to it. These must be updated once. |
